Swix Ski Poles Swix Tools & Gear
Since 1943 the Swix name has been synonymous with cross country skiing. Swix makes ski wax, ski poles, and clothing for all performance levels of skiers in all snow sports, but more specifically for cross country skiers, they bring a rich history and level of expertise to cross country ski products.

Swix was founded in 1943 by two Swedes, a pharmaceutical president and a ski racer, who developed a modest line of 5 Nordic ski waxes (3 hard and 2 klisters). These waxes were unique in that they were the first waxes to be made from synthetic raw materials and they were the first color coded waxes.

In 1948 the Swedes won all of the cross country ski events in the Olympics using Swix waxes. In 1949, Swix began developing their glide waxes for alpine skiing, which eventually led to the development of Cera F in 1987, the single most successful racing wax in ski history.

In 1974 Swix purchased a Norwegian ski pole company that was the largest manufacturer of cross country ski poles. Today Swix Poles produces more than a million ski poles across all disciplines.

Swix was bought in 1979 by Ferd AS of Lillehammer, Norway where most of the ski waxes are produced today.

In 1989, Swix added a clothing factory and developed their Swix clothing line which now includes all cross country ski apparel and accessories including underwear, hats and gloves.

Since the beginning, the focus of Swix has been to continually improve the quality and performance of their products. They take great pride in their testing. Prior to the Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, Swix and Norwegian wax technicians not only traveled to the site to test the snow, which was expected, but they left nothing to chance and took water samples from the reservoir that supplied the water for the snow making. Today, Swix prides itself on making non-toxic and environmentally friendly waxes.
