New Skiers:
Skis: There are two directions to go here, and it really depends on your skiing expectations and the type of skiing venues available. If you are looking for more rigorous activity and you have groomed trails available to you, then our recommendation is the Team Skate ski. Skate skiing is easier to learn than classic for new skiers, and this ski has the stability and performance to allow you to learn.
If you do not have groomed trail skiing and/or you do not have an interest in skating and you want a recreational, touring-type ski, then the XCruise 53 is the ski you need.
Boots: The Sport Pursuit Boot is the perfect boot to team up with the Team Skate. It has the support necessary for effective skating, but it is flexible enough for easygoing skiing. A huge advantage with this boot is that it can also be used for classic skiing, so if you decide to expand your skiing and purchase a classic ski or an XCruise you do not have to purchase a new boot.
The XCruise Boa boot is an excellent boot for the XCruise 53 and for all kinds of touring. With an easy foot adjustment dial, this stylish boot will remain comfortable and stable throughout the day.
Poles: The Swix Alulite and CT5.5 are great choices. They provide easygoing performance in an affordable package.
Recreational Skiers: Skis: Again we lean towards skate skis and light touring skis due to the learning curve being less steep. The recommendations are broken down by exertion level.
Relaxed/Social exercise: XCruise 53 G2
Recreational Fitness: Team or Race Skate.
Boots: Our recommendation for an easygoing performance boot is the Sport Skate or Sport Pursuit that matches well with the Team Skate ski. The Team Classic and XCruise Boa are excellent models for the XCruise 53.
Poles: The Swix Alulite is a good all purpose pole that can be used for skating and the Cruiser Pole is a good inexpensive alternative for relaxed and social exercise.
Sport or Performance Skiers:
Skis: These recommendations are for experienced skiers looking for specific criteria in performance and ski design. More experienced performance skiers may also want to pursue classic skiing as well.
Race Skate and Race Classic skis are perfect for training, learning and the occasional race. They also are great for juniors who are just beginning to race.
The Team Classic G2 or the XCruise 53 G2 should also be considered as a secondary ski for spontaneous, grab & go situations.
Boots:
Boa Skate & Boa Classic offer race reliable support and easily accessible, fine tuning of fit which is great for longer skiing days.
Sport Pro Skate offers race ready support & the Sport Pursuit offers skating and classic/touring flexibility.
Poles: The Swix CT3 Carbon, CT4 Comp Pole and the CT5 Race are three excellent racing, training and fitness poles. They are differentiated by weight, amount of carbon, stiffness and cost.
Racers & Avid Skiers:
Skis: World Cup Skis offer the lightest, quickest performance on the market
World Cup
Boots: World Cup Boots have two widths. The black boots are 105mm wide and the white boots are 94 mm wide. Both provide incredible carbon-reinforced stiffness and support in a very comfortable, and warm, boot.
Poles: Swix Star, Team and Carbon Poles all offer a level of stiffness and weight savings that are targeted towards races and training of all types.
