Common Questions:

What is the difference between Light Touring Skis and Touring Skis?

Light Touring Skis are cross country skis that can be used with SNS or NNN boots, and they are double-camber skis which offer more efficient kick. Touring skis are single camber skis which glide on the grip patterns or zones, and they usually have metal edges.

What are the advantages of a light touring system over a touring set-up?

1. The first is weight. Light touring boots are significantly lighter and less stiff. This allows for a much more effective kick and a reduced risk of blisters. Think of light touring boots as trail running shoes or light hikers and touring boots would be leather hiking boots.

2. Light touring skis generally do not have metal edges, and they are a true double camber ski, which means the skier has a more efficient kick and they take less effort to move forward.

3. Light touring skis are skinnier for efficiency and versatility. They can be used on groomed trails and loose snow up to mid-calf, where touring skis are best in deep snow.

4. Light touring skis are shorter for easier maneuverability.

5. And finally, there is the possibility of using one boot for a variety of techniques if the skier chooses. Pursuit (or Combi) boots are designed to be used for both skate and classical techniques, but they be also be very effective light touring boots, which means a skier could use one boot with different skis and techniques.
