We have tested a variety of easy to apply waxes and we have listed the best ones here. Please note that none of these products replace hot-waxing your skis for overall maintenance and long-term speed. But, when you need good skis fast, these are the best.
Strategy #1 - when you don't know what the temperature is going to be - ie: ski prep for juniors, you want one product to do everything. Recommendations: Toko IROX LF spray and Toko HF Rub-on block. Use by themselves or combined. The HF rub-on block is fast but only lasts for 3-5km. The HF block is a nice little speed" boost" if your skis feel slow. The spray is not as fast, but will last for about 10k.
Strategy #2 - you know the temperature, but have no time to hot wax - Recommendation: Fast Wax Slick Pro (FL) Paste. Excellent when you have no time, when you realize you missed the correct wax of the day, and for traveling light when you don't want to take hot-waxing tools, etc. This wax comes in 4 temperature ranges, and these ranges are accurate. The paste glides better in slightly transformed snow versus new sharp crystals, but we have found nothing better for overall glide and speed. It is applied in thin layers like a shoe polish with the included applicator. We have found the best buffing pad to be the Toko Dual Pad, which works beautifully with this paste. In most conditions you will have excellent skis for about 20 minutes, and good skis for 1-2 hours. There also is a base protection aspect to this paste that we really like.
