New for 2011-12, Atomic has released the much-anticipated SkinTec Ski after more than 8 years of development and testing.
Atomic developed the actual SkinTec material a while ago (Mohair has been around for decades), and they knew that it would grip in an extremely wide temperature range. But it took years of trial and error to realize that they were going to have to completely redesign the classic ski to take advantage of the SkinTec gripping properties without sacrificing glide.
The SkinTec material is 30% shorter than the actual grip zone to provide exceptional glide. By creating a new sidewall design and combining that with a symmetrical camber over the SkinTec plate, the grip is easily compressible and predictable, and yet it is completely off the snow surface during glide.
The ski comes with 2 removal SkinTec modules (plates) that allow the skier to adjust the amount of grip to the conditions. The modules are are held to the base using magnets - pretty revolutionary in itself, and they are easily removed with a SkinTec Tool (key).
The SkinTec material is treated to prevent icing, and this ski is designed to be effective in all temperatures and conditions.
